Ionizing Modules
For Adjust-A-Shelf™ Desiccators
- Effectively neutralizes electro-static surface charges throughout a desiccator cabinet
- Protects microelectronic components and packaged parts against electro-static discharge (ESD)
- Eliminates particle attraction, keeping surfaces contamination-free
- Low-voltage power supply is intrinsically safe, minimizes EMI/RFI
- No remote on/off switching – always-on operation eliminates inadvertent misuse
- Clean, low-maintenance operation: long-lasting titanium emitters are mounted in a 304 stainless steel housing
Terra's low-voltage Desiccator Ionizing Modules provide safe, effective static neutralization to prevent ESD damage and eliminate contamination attraction. Unlike other static-control measures, this ionization protects conductive and nonconductive materials alike (see sidebar).
Each module includes two titanium emitters per desiccator chamber. Together, they provide a balanced charge of positive and negative ions that safely neutralize charges on surfaces inside the chamber and on parts that are introduced into the chamber. Ions are distributed throughout the chamber by purge gas (generally nitrogen) released into the cabinet through perforations around the emitters (see photo). With a gas flow of around 20 SCFH, the module provides static discharge time of less than ten seconds (1000V to less than 100V).*
Select the appropriate model below for your standard Adjust-A-Shelf™ Desiccator. Modules are available for other Terra desiccators; call for a quotation. Prices include installation on the specified cabinet. Specify desired power transformer (110VAC or 220VAC) separately.

To Protect Static-Sensitive Materials
Grounded Cabinets Aren't Enough!
Grounding your storage cabinet won't protect ESD-sensitive parts unless their surfaces are completely conductive or dissipative. Nonconductive plastic and other materials, which are commonly used in semiconductor and pharmaceutical encapsulates, retain surface charges that attract contaminants and cause potentially devastating static discharge
Even if parts are conductive, cabinet grounding offers static protection only as long as the path to ground remains unbroken. As soon as a ground wire is disconnected, or a shelf loses contact with ground, this protection is lost.
Terra's ionizing modules guarantee a static-safe environment independent of these considerations. Ionization effectively removes surface charge imbalances on materials placed inside a desiccator chamber and ensures that surfaces remain electro-statically neutral.
These low-voltage modules are also intrinsically safe and minimize electro-magnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI).
