Terra’s SmartHood™ Ductless Fume Hood ventilates and removes organic vapors released inside the hood to allow safe recirculation of exhaust into the room.
Polypropylene construction offers excellent chemical resistance, and a 1" front lip provides a safe spill containment area. The airflow baffling system minimizes airflow turbulence that could result in backflow toward an operator or retain fumes inside the hood. The onboard fan module draws fumes safely toward the rear of the containment area and directs them into activated carbon filters, which remove chemical fumes from the exhaust flow. Terra’s bonded charcoal filters minimize particle sloughing and eliminate voids that can allow chemical bypass of the charcoal media.
HEPA filters may be installed inside the hood to remove submicron particles, including aerosols that cling to dust. An external HEPA filter module is also available for final filtration, allowing air recirculation into a cleanroom environment.
Smart Controller Maintains Constant Air Velocity
The SmartHood controller automatically modulates the fan speed to maintain a constant airflow velocity (typically, 100 feet/minute) past the operator as the sash height or HEPA filter backpressure changes. The measured air velocity is displayed on the LCD readout. The constant velocity set point, programmable on the touchpad control, helps meet provisions of ASHRAE 110-95 test protocol.
The controller also provides several audible and visible safety alarms:
- Airspeed alarm: Alarms signal if measured air speed past the operator falls below set point value (typically 100 ft./minute).
- Charcoal filter breakthrough: A hydrocarbon sensor monitors integrity of the charcoal filter. When “breakthrough” is detected, the controller issues a warning alert to change the filter.
- HEPA backpressure alarm: When pressure differential exceeds a programmable limit, the controller issues an alert to indicate the need to replace the HEPA filter(s).
- Elapsed time alarm: Based on predicted filter lifetime, a timer can be used to signal the need for filter replacement before “breakthrough.” Secondary timers can be programmed to issue elapsed-time alerts for process operations.
- Process alerts: When probes for monitoring relative humidity, pH and temperature are installed, alarms can be programmed to indicate that specified process limits are exceeded.
The SmartHood includes a fluorescent light, mounted externally, and a 12"-dia. x 2"H exhaust flange mounted at the top rear of the unit. |
