Anaerobic Clinical Microbiology Equipment
First, cells are aseptically cultured in media by inoculation and incubation. Oxygen is removed to create the hypoxic or anaerobic atmosphere for ideal growth of the species. This can be done with nitrogen (or other inert gas) purges, or by introducing carbon dioxide. Species that would die in the presence of oxygen molecules will metabolize via fermentation; other bacteria can grow with some oxygen present.
Bacterial cells outnumber cells in the human body, so it’s imperative that we isolate and identify what they are and how they function. Microorganisms can be beneficial to our physiology, as in the digestive system flora which promotes good health, or harmful such as pathogens that contribute to tissue infections and illnesses. Anaerobic research occurs in a sterile environment to preserve the natural habitat of the cells, and includes applications such as stem cell experiments, cancer investigation, or pathology assays to treat infection.
Anaerobic and hypoxic research requires specialized equipment. The products featured here were selected to help your purchasing efforts: low- or no-oxygen chambers to create optimal environments; equipment designed for storage and sterilization; and operational supplies that address waste disposal and gowning needs.
