The Chief Engineer heads Terra's engineering operation and interfaces heavily and directly with manufacturing, Sales and Customer Service. The Chief Engineer reports to the owner and is a member of Terra's Senior Management Team. He or she leads, recruits and motivates a staff of several engineers, a dozen or so design/drafters and the necessary support staff. Terra is recruiting for this position due to the pending retirement of the incumbent.
Success in this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, high energy, an enthusiastic, creative approach to solving design problems, and the ability to manage and control engineering staff to meet design standards and delivery commitments. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to set or revise drawing standards, selection engineering software tools and training and control staff to produce results.
Professional experience required includes standard mechanical engineering with an emphasis on sheet metal and enclosure designs, a reasonable background in electrical control circuitry design, PLC-based control systems, regulation of temperature, humidity, gas concentrations and particulate control in enclosures ranging from small boxes to several thousand cubic feet. Design challenges include sheet metal enclosures, fluid dynamics, PLC control systems, HVAC controls for micro climates and electronic control systems. Experience with sheet metal (steel and SS), dimensional metal and plastic fabrication procedures involving CNC techniques, is critical. See web site for product range. A BSME is preferred, with broad engineering experience in range of backgrounds, product areas, specialties and technical fields. These will be critical attributes of the successful candidate.
