Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Equipment
The process of PCR can be summarized as follows: 1) heat is applied to denature (separate) the nucleic acid strand; 2) a medium temperature causes primers to anneal, or join, with the newly-created template, and 3) cool temperature, combined with an enzyme, completes the elongation/extension of the strand. Now the newly created sample is stabilized with a chemical buffer and stored at near-freezing temperature. Synthesis and modification of genomic molecules allows scientists to accomplish more today than ever before, and with smaller sample sizes.
