Softwall Modular Cleanrooms

Terra's Softwall Modular Cleanrooms provide an economical, versatile solution to clean manufacturing requirements in semiconductor, medical device, and many other industries. Portable, expandable, and easy to assemble/disassemble, these cleanrooms are also available on an accelerated delivery program to meet your tight production schedule!

Unlike other modular cleanrooms on the market which require complex suspended ceiling supports, Terra cleanrooms are completely free-standing structures.

Use the catalog numbers below to specify a cleanroom with a powder-coated steel or 304 stainless steel frame. Then based on your desired floor plan, a Terra application specialist will quote you on a room configured for your appllcation. Components include Panels, Strip Shileds, Strip Doors, and Filter/Fan Modules, as well as accessories and options.

The support frame is fabricated of interlocking 2.5" powder-coated square steel uprights, cross sections, and ceiling members. Ceiling members are connected to steel T-bars, forming the 2' x 4' bays that support filters and lights. Corner reinforcement gussets ensure a rigid structure. Optional heavy-duty casters allow easy repositioning after installation. Standard height is 7' measured from filter face to floor (8' 3" overall), allowing installation below a standard 9' ceiling. Includes a control panel for operation of filter/fan units, lights, and other selected options.

Note: Walls over 8' long require an additional vertical support member.

Softwall Panels & Strip Shields

Softwall panels are fabricated of heavy-duty, blur-free 40 mil material—double the industry standard—ensuring enhanced tear resistance and eliminating the need for unsightly sewn sash weights. Strip shields, made of 60-mil material, come standard in 8" widths, with 2" overlap, for easy entrance or exiting. Polyurethane shields are 12"W, 40 mil thick.

• Cleanroom-Grade Vinyl is fire retardant and low outgassing.
• Static-Dissipative Vinyl is manufactured with permanent built-in static inhibitors that, unlike topical treatments, will not wear off.
• Non-outgassing Panels are made from inherently static-dissipative polyurethane that provides permanent, humidity-independent ESD protection for sensitive manufacturing conditions. Polyurethane contains no plasticizer, making it virtually non-outgassing.

• Grip-Track™ opens and closes without tools for easy panel mounting.

Softwall panels and strip shields attach to the support frame by means of a unique noncontaminating Grip-Track™ mounting system that eliminates cracks and seams where germs or particles can collect. Other mounting systems are available.

Note: Softwall panels are notched to ensure a snug fit at all corners. In standard installations, panels are supplied in lengths of four feet. Where two panels meet, the panels overlap by 6". To prevent personnel from parting panels at these seams, order optional panel seaming, Dual-Lock Velcro®, magnetic closures, or attachment clips below.

Determining the Gap between Panel or Strip Shields and Floor

All softwall cleanrooms require some gap between the panel and the floor to allow air to escape. If this gap is too small to accommodate the flow of air generated by the ceiling filter fans, then panels and strips will billow outward. If it is too large, the cleanroom will not maintain adequate positive pressure.

In general, the formula to determine the gap is:

Gap in Feet = (Number of FFUs * 8 sq. ft.) / Room Perimeter

Example: Take a room 16’ x 16’ x 7’ high with 7 FFUs. The FFU surface area is 56 sq. ft. (7 FFUs * 8 sq. ft.). The room perimeter is 64 feet (16 ft. * 4). The gap is .875’. (56 sq. ft./64 ft.), or about 10”. Order panels or strip shields 6 ft. long. See ordering chart.

Selecting the Proper Panel and Strip Shields Height
The above example show exactly the gap produced when a 6' curtain is installed on a standard cleanroom frame, since the curtain bead is mounted about 1.5" below the filter face (6'10.5" above the floor). If the same cleanroom included casters, which raise the cleanroom about 6", then a 6'6" curtain would be appropriate.

Strip Shield Doors

Strip shields can be ordered in convenient widths to create access doors for softwall or hardwall cleanrooms. By alternating strips of clear vinyl with frosted vinyl, you eliminate both sticking and air gaps, creating entrances that are cleaner and easier to walk through.

Note: Strip Shield doors are free-hanging—standard installations do not include attachment of the two sides to adjacent panels or frame.
