Portable Ground Strap Tester
- Incorporates upper and lower resistance
tests
- Displays PASS/FAIL information on easy-to-read
LED
- Provides an audible Out of Spec
alarm
This Ground Strap Tester provides
an inexpensive method for guaranteeing the integrity of wrist
straps. This compact, automatic test unit checks the specified
resistance limits of all types of wrist straps and other similar
personnel grounding devices. A single banana-jack input connector
accommodates industry-standard wrist straps. A belt clip is
included; the case is made of tough ABS plastic.
Dual Upper Limits for Flexible Applications
The tester compares the measurement
to preset lower (750 kilohms) and upper (1.25 or 10 megohms)
resistance levels. A two-position switch located on the front
panel enables the user to select either upper limit; use the
10 megohm limit for checking the condition of the wrist strap
while on the wearers wrist, or the 1.25 megohm upper
limit for checking the wrist strap alone.
The tester incorporates both visual and
audible PASS/FAIL indicators and a unique fail-safe design
with automatic self-check. Each time the tester is operated,
the FAIL audio/visual indicators are momentarily activated
prior to the actual test, ensuring that both the FAIL and
PASS modes function properly. When a defective strap is tested,
the red FAIL LED indicator and audible alarm are indicated.
The circuits and displays used are part
of an efficient (low current) circuit design that enables
the unit to operate from a single 9-volt alkaline battery
for a period in excess of two years under normal use. The
unit also contains a battery test circuit that continuously
monitors the condition of the battery and warns the operator
when it must be replaced. Complies with requirements of EOS/ESD
Assoc. STD DS -1 3/85.
