Portable Wire-Bond Strength Tester

  • Performs destructive and nondestructive tests in conformance with MIL-STD 883C
  • Delivers low-cost, on-line test capability
  • Provides true wire-bond strength measurement
  • Maintains smooth motion throughout the pull cycle
  • Five pull ranges available
  • Optional accessory chuck height adjusts to fit many package types

The many advanced features of this portable Wire-Bond Strength Tester enable it to provide accurate, reliable wire-bond tests—in either destructive or non-destructive mode.

Ahead of the Competition
Designed as a compact, portable benchtop unit, this tester features a minimum of moving parts, all of which are built to last a lifetime. Side forces on the wire are eliminated through the precise alignment of the pivot axis of the gauge arm to the swing bracket and through a free-swinging hook at the gauge tip. A recoil guard prevents undue snap-back of the instrument’s gauge arm and indicator needle, thereby protecting the accuracy of the needles. A dash pot (included with all testers) lets you adjust the pull rate and delivers smooth motion through the entire pull cycle, thereby guaranteeing the independence of test results from operator variables.

These features assure the repetitive read-out accuracy that is essential in wire bond testing—but which is impossible with other testers.

Easy Operation
Simple to use, this device can be run by an operator with little or no previous training. The test sample is first positioned on the accessory chuck, which adjusts to fit various packages. (The Wire-Bond Strength Tester is designed for use with most standard wire bond chucks; the magnetic accessory chuck is suitable for most applications.) Next, you position the pull hook under the wire to be tested with the aid of a microscope (not included); available as an integrated component of Terra Universal's Wire-Bond Strength Tester Inspection Station)

To conduct nondestructive tests, you simply adjust the stop-screw (which limits the movement of the swing-bracket) until the gauge shows the desired pull force. Because the wire-loop heights of finished bonds are within close tolerances, this limited force testing can be performed with sufficient accuracy to ensure that wire bonds are good.

The unit is available for purchase with a single gauge (with hook) of your choice: 2-15 g, 3-30 g, 5-50 g, 10-100 g, 15-150g. Calibration weights and optional accessory chuck sold separately.

For those requiring ultimate testing versatility, Terra Universal also offers a value bundle consisting of all five weights (with hooks), five calibration weights, and an accessory chuck.

Additional hooks and calibration weights are available for any wire or gauge size.

Simple, Precise Calibration
Calibration weights are also available for every pull range so that you can perform checks of the tester’s accuracy. For reliable results, calibration checks should be performed frequently.

To ensure that a gauge is in good working order, simply hang the correct weight onto the pull hook, drop the swing bracket until the pull arm is horizontal, and then compare the gauge reading with the weight number. All calibration weights are manufactured and inspected in accordance with MIL-STD 45662.
