Multiple Relief/Bleed (RB) Valves:
Rapid Overpressure Relief and
Moisture Removal

Nitrogen purge of glove boxes is essential to attain low-humidity conditions, but reaching the set point can be time-consuming and expensive.

To get to set point quickly and economically, you need higher bleed capacity to quickly exhaust the volume entering a chamber on a high-flow purge (up to 170 CFH). Although a single bleed valve typically provides ample pressure release once this set point is attained, its reduced bleed capacity greatly extends the amount of time and nitrogen required to remove moisture-laden air at operation start-up.

For this reason, Terra Universal recommends three (3) Relief/Bleed (RB) valves in every glove box chamber, with an additional valve for each airlock. This speeds up the recovery time and reduces the amount of nitrogen gas—a savings in both time and materials—while ensuring a safe positive pressure.

The valve material is paired to the type of glovebox (plastic or stainless steel), and the three values are installed in opposing locations in the chamber to facilitate even gas release.
  • Continuously bleeds off excess internal gas to maintain a safe positive pressure inside glove boxes
  • Variable release mechanism automatically discharges any sudden surge of incoming gas
  • Protects against accidental negative pressure by functioning as a check valve
  • Extends life of doors and gaskets
  • 100% reliable, noncontaminating and maintenance-free! The Automatic RB® Valve ensures a safe, continuous positive pressure in Terra Universal glove boxes, desiccators, and other purged enclosures.

It provides three crucial functions. During normal operation, it allows a continuous low-level release of gas to maintain a safe internal positive pressure. In the event of a sudden increase in the incoming gas supply, it automatically opens to relieve the high pressure. Finally, it functions as a check valve to ensure that air and contaminants cannot enter the enclosure in the event of a momentary negative pressure.

Most important, it provides operator peace of mind. Its field-proven reliability guarantees that your cabinets maintain a safe positive pressure, even when subjected to a high-flow of purge gas. It also safeguards your investment in a processing chamber by preserving doors and seals.

Select the Static-Dissipative PVC model for use in Terra's glove boxes. The compact size makes it ideal for mounting either internally or externally. The static-dissipative PVC material resists a wide range of process gases and chemicals and will not generate surface charges, an important consideration in static-sensitive applications.

For effective pressure relief select one valve per air lock, up to 8 cu. ft. (0.2 m³) and two valves per glove box, up to 45 cu. ft.( 1.3 m³).

Stainless Steel Design for Caustic Gas

Terra's stainless steel Automatic RB® Valve is designed for use with caustic gas. It incorporates a Teflon® valve mechanism.

Both models come with all necessary mounting hardware. Installation is included if ordered with glove box.
