| Rods or Perforations? |
| Both rod and perforated tops are designed to optimize the vertical laminar flow of particle-free air inside a cleanroom. From that point of view, both are superior to solid tops, which block air flow and create significant turbulence both above and below the work surface. |
| Rods create virtually no turbulence, but their open structure leaves little space to support small tools and parts. To solve this problem, Terra offers clip-on equipment mounts. Terra's standard QuietTop™ design uses .25" (6 mm)-diameter rods on 1" (25 mm) centers. Call for other rod sizes and configurations. |
Perforations provide more surface area for supporting parts, but they do generate some turbulence in the gaps between the cut-outs. Terra's standard OpenTop™ perforations have a .75" (19 mm) diameter and open up 40% of the total benchtop for the air flow. Other hole patterns and sizes are available. |

Technical Guide to Electropolished Stainless Steel
Compare!
Terra's advanced technology benches incorporate contamination-control designs and materials you just won't find elsewhere.
Compare! Elastomer "potting" eliminates welds around rods, dampens vibration and eliminates particle traps! |
Competitor's Design Conventional welds trap particles and amplify noise and vibrations. |
Compare! OpenTop™ Perforated Top Hidden reinforcements minimize dead spots, add strength, and eliminate deflection bounce-back ("oilcan effect") without dead spaces. |
Competitor's Design Conventional perforated tops rely on "blank out" support panels, which create turbulence in a cleanroom laminar flow. |
Compare! Full Bullnose Front Edge Standard on all QuietTop™ models, Terra's one-piece bullnose enhances worker comfort while optimizing vertical laminar airflow—without welds or cracks. |
Competitor's Designs Crimped edges leave cracks where particles collect. |
| Welded bullnose harbors contaminants; sharp bottom angle creates turbulence. |
