A - ISO Rating

ISO 14644-1 is a widely recognized international standard that specifies the classification of air cleanliness in cleanrooms and controlled environments. The standard provides guidance for assessing and controlling the levels of airborne particulates in these environments, which are crucial to industries such as pharmaceuticals, health care, microelectronics, biotechnology and aerospace.
The standard defines cleanrooms as enclosed spaces where the concentration of airborne particles is controlled to meet specific cleanliness requirements. ISO 14644-1 establishes the maximum allowable particle concentration per square meter of air space. The standard also defines the size range of particles considered within the classification, typically diameters of 0.1 micrometers and larger.
In addition to the classification system, ISO 14644-1 provides guidance on monitoring and validating cleanroom conditions, establishing procedures for testing and evaluating air cleanliness, and ensuring ongoing compliance with the specified cleanliness levels.
Terra’s products are designed to comply with the below ISO 14644-1 classifications.
A1 - ISO 4
The maximum allowable concentration in an ISO class 4 environment is 10,000 particles (greater than 0.1 micrometers in diameter) per cubic meter. ISO class 4 cleanrooms, or enclosures, must maintain an average airflow velocity of 50 – 90 feet per minute and an average air change rate of 300 – 540 changes per hour.
A2 - ISO 5
The maximum allowable concentration in an ISO class 5 environment is 100,000 particles (greater than 0.1 micrometers in diameter) per cubic meter. ISO class 5 cleanrooms, or enclosures, must maintain an average airflow velocity of 40 – 80 feet per minute and an average air change rate of 240 – 480 changes per hour.
A3 - ISO 6
The maximum allowable concentration in an ISO class 6 environment is 1,000,000 particles (greater than 0.1 micrometers in diameter) per cubic meter. ISO class 6 cleanrooms, or enclosures, must maintain an average airflow velocity of 25 – 40 feet per minute and an average air change rate of 150 – 240 changes per hour.
A4 - ISO 7
The maximum allowable concentration in an ISO class 7 environment is 352,000 particles (greater than 0.5 micrometers in diameter) per cubic meter. ISO class 7 cleanrooms, or enclosures, must maintain an average airflow velocity of 10 – 15 feet per minute and an average air change rate of 60 – 90 changes per hour.
A4 - ISO 8
The maximum allowable concentration in an ISO class 8 environment is 3,520,000 particles (greater than 0.5 micrometers in diameter) per cubic meter. ISO class 8 cleanrooms, or enclosures, must maintain an average airflow velocity of 1 – 8 feet per minute and an average air change rate of 5 – 48 changes per hour.

D1 - Acrylic Cleanroom Materials
Acrylic is an economical, lightweight material. Acrylic is shatterproof and a cost-effective alternative to glass.
D2 - Chrome-Plated Steel Cleanroom Materials
Chrome-plated steel is a highly aesthetic, economical grade material that is well-suited for a wide variety of dry storage and processing areas.
D3 - Polycarbonate Cleanroom Materials
Polycarbonate is transparent with a slight gray tint and offers broad-spectrum chemical resistance, high impact resistance, and excellent thermal resistance (to 200°F / 93.3°C). Polycarbonate is stronger and cracks less easily than both acrylic (15x stronger) and glass (250x stronger).
D4 - Polymer Cleanroom Materials
Polymer storage cabinets offer a strong, lightweight frame design made of chemically-resistant polymer.
D5 - Polypropylene Cleanroom Materials
Polypropylene cabinets offer broad chemical resistance, microbial resistance, and a strong industrial-grade surface.

304 Stainless Steel Cabinets feature components that support easy disinfection, wipedown, and sterilization for pharmaceutical and biotechnology use. 304 steel offers better corrosion resistance than galvanized steel or chrome plating, and has reasonable chemical resistance for most applications.

E1 - HEPA Filtration Cabinets
Cabinets with Cleanroom-Grade HEPA Media and Blowers are required to meet or exceed ISO 5 / Class 100 air quality requirements. Terra's HEPA filtration systems are capable of meeting virtually any cleanliness requirements for standards including GMP, IEST, ASTM, and ISO 14644-1.

E2 - Humidity Control Storage and Desiccators
The best way to maintain the environment in a desiccator cabinet, glove box, or similar enclosure, is to automatically purge the environment with nitrogen or argon gas.

E4 - Static Control Cabinets
Terra's Static Dissipative PVC Cabinets (SDPVC) feature bonded dissipative layers that resist abrasion. SDPVC desiccators retain their surface resistivity of 10^6 - 10^8 ohms/square indefinitely (unlike spray-on coatings that can wear off after a few years), protecting your materials against ESD damage. J1 - UV Sterilization Cabinets
UV Sterilization Cabinets are a popular choice for storing and decontaminating everyday objects or garments; especially porous or electronically sensitive devices that are difficult to clean and easily damaged by water.

J4 - Fire-Rated Cabinets and Lab Safes
Fire-Rated Lab Safes feature an internal locking drawer and adjustable shelves for secure and flexible storage. In addition to a 120-minute fire rating, these sturdy safes can withstand a 30ft drop test.

J5 - Cabinet Ovens - Heated Storage up to 60°C

K3 - Hanger Rods
Stainless Steel Hanger Rods are preferred for cleanroom use; select chrome-plated for general applications. Cleanroom hanger rods provide a clean and easily accessible storage option for cleanroom garments, gowns, frocks, and coveralls.
Closed loop cleanroom hangers prevent hangers from falling off the rack, while also serving as a security measure to prevent pilferage or damage. Single-piece hanger design minimizes the likeliness of snags and lint generation while cleaning.

HEPA/ULPA Filters Do More Than Meet ISO Requirements - they also prevent infection.
Most cleanroom professionals understand that HEPA and ULPA filters capture contaminants that degrade particle-sensitive samples. But they also help remove bacteria, mold spores, and many viruses that contribute to a host of infections.
Most common bacteria are contained by the 0.3-micron pore size of high-efficiency particular air (HEPA) filters. Ultra-Low Penetration Air (ULPA) filters, which are rated 99.999% efficient at retaining particles of 0.12 microns and larger in diameter, capture ultra-fine contaminants, including many large viruses and mold spores.
These filters also remove aerosol-born pathogens - germs that hitch a ride on larger particles and liquid droplets that are captured in a HEPA or ULPA filter. HEPA- or ULPA-based Fan/Filter Units (FFUs) thus can play an important role in infection prevention in surgical theaters, ICUs and other medical settings.
Additionally, HEPA filters can help filter pollen, tiny insects, bacteria, mold, and other fungal spores that might be present during plant tissue culture or cannabis production. Contaminants such as these can find a way in via personnel or normal HVAC units and can blight crops and reduce yields. HEPA Filters help increase crop yields, pass inspection/meet regulations, and reduce contamination.
