Cleanroom space can be expensive, both to set up and to maintain. One way to get the most value out of that investment is to make good use of the height, not just the width: in other words, the space above the floor. The only problem with this approach is that the more vertical space you use, the harder it can be to reach things.
One easy way to get around this challenge is to use step stools, just as in any other situation where people have to deal with room components that are out of reach. Step stools are readily available, and often inexpensive. However most commercially-available step stools are inappropriate for cleanroom environments. They feature rough surfaces, paint and other materials that are completely unsuitable for cleanrooms. It is simply not possible to sterilize them to cleanroom standards.
Terra Universal’s step stools and stepladders are designed to meet all of your cleanroom needs. Each folding stepladder is made from electropolished 316 stainless steel, which provides excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance, making it ideally suitable for cleanroom use regardless of the industry.
Each folding stepladder is rated to safely support up to 250 lbs. The non-skid polyurethane feet are individually adjustable to create a level and secure platform, increasing safety on slick surfaces; they are acid-resistant and non-contaminating. Each model also comes with a convenient handrail.
Three models are available: the 1-step 2805-80A, 2-step 2805-81A, and 3-step 2805-82A. Each uses the same 15” x 10” perforated stainless steel step design. Terra Universal also offers a stainless steel stool with a 15” diameter seat that is 20.25 inches high, and can support up to 250 lbs.
While folding stepladders offer great flexibility, especially in situations where storage space is at a premium, the folding design limits the ladder height and maximum load capacity. For those who require greater capacity, Terra Universal’s non-folding stepladders provide useful alternatives, as they can support up to 350 lbs and offer up to 5 steps. These stepladders are available in both standard and CleanSeam™ models; the latter using sanitary-grade welds to eliminate cracks that could harbor germs and other microbial contaminants. Buyers can also choose between 304 and 316 stainless steel depending on their needs.
All step stools and stepladders have 0.75” diameter perforations to promote laminar air flow. Not only are the steps easy to clean; but the airflow also helps prevent particulates from building up on the step surface. Covers add another level of cleanliness to the non-folding stepladder, keeping particulates away from the surface. Fixed handrails offer an additional level of stability, rising either 29”, or 42” above the top step. Non-folding step ladders combine spring-loaded stainless steel casters for ease of mobility with non-skid polyurethane leveling feet for stability when in use.
Corrosion can build up on the casters of older stepladders. Terra stepladders shipped since 2009 use casters made from 304 stainless steel, and therefore do not have this issue. Customers with older stepladders can contact Terra Universal to purchase replacement stainless steel casters if needed.
Whether used to reach storage shelves, or change filters, stepladders and step stools are a key part of any cleanroom environment. The right stepladder not only allows for easy cleaning, but also increases safety of the user. Terra Universal stepladders and step stools match safety with cleanliness for all cleanroom environments.
